Your Little Angel is OBESE

August 9, 2008

Yes that is right. Stop and smell the roses.

Apparently (according to Dear Parents: Your Child is Fat article in the Time) some parents just don’t know that their little angel is (how do i put it gently) slightly over their ideal weight. And by slightly I mean muchly.

School children across England will soon have their Body Mass Index (BMI) tested as part of a new effort to tackle the growing problem of childhood obesity. Parents will be sent a letter telling them whether their child is underweight, a healthy weight, overweight or very overweight.

(…)

Still, it pays to break the news of a child’s problem gently. Following the advice of numerous obesity experts, the Department of Health has decided that the name of the final, portliest category — very overweight — was a more sensible choice than obese. “Preliminary findings of the survey suggest that many people who would be defined clinically as obese find the use of the term obese highly offensive and would stop listening to further advice.”

While I too, think that OBESE people need to be told just that (over and over again) the real issue I wish to address here is: “Why is everyone so two faced?”

It is perfectly alright to talk behind people’s backs, to trample human rights, to kill and rape; but for the love of god just nobody tell that obese kid he is obese, or that black guy that he is black, or that stupid guy that he is stupid…

We live in a world where nobody wants to face the issues, but would rather dull us all down with such phrases as very overweight, African-American or mentally challenged. BTW how would you describe an obese black stupid guy to your best friend? Be honest. So why then do you react with indignation to people that say just that to that obese black stupid guy’s face?

Another issue is:

“This is a really serious problem,” says Dr Waine. “We’re in danger of producing a generation of children with a shorter life expectancy. We can’t just say that’s acceptable.”

Who ever decreed that life must be long? Sure, people want to live for ever, but should they? “NO,” is my ‘humble’ opinion. I don’t actually see the benefit of having more and more people on this planet, that live longer and longer. Especially when I see their conformist selves challenging nothing, benefiting no one and generally making lives miserable for others. People are content just living, eating, shitting, fucking and reproducing. We live on a small blue marble in the middle of nowhere and people don’t seem to care about acquiring answers beyond their meager existence? I have no idea why but I can not live in peace (even though I try) not knowing the answers. Maybe I finally need professional help…
